Unsung Heroes
SGT. Hook has a nice post up about an Afghani, nicknamed “Rambo” that works the first gate of a Forward Operating Base’s Entry Control Point in Afghanistan. Basically the Afghani’s quick action defused a very dangerous situation.
It is stories like this that remind me why I cringe everytime I hear someone say we just need to nuke em’ all. While yes that would remove the threat, it is not a very humane solution to the situation and a lot of good people would be lost. I especially love it when I hear statements like that from supposed god fearing Christians…
When I was deployed to Afghanistan I tried to treat everyone I met like a decent human being. Granted there were some exceptions, but trust me, they deserved it. In Afghanistan we need to win the hearts and minds of the people. Where we accomplish that mission we have less problems and they don’t let the Taliban and other extrimist organization seek refuge.
While the traditional media makes heroes out of celebrities, we can count on the family and friends of those deployed to make the world aware of some of the unsung heroes.
Spice Chai Latte
When I was over in Afghanistan I got hooked on the Spice Chai Latte (Thanks Jess!) that Green Beans sold. When I was home in the states on leaved I tired a couple of coffee shops to see if they were the same but they just didn’t taste as good. I thought I would never get a cup as good as what I had in Afghanistan which annoyed me.
It looks like I might be able to get a good Spice Chai Latte in the states afterall, as Green Beans is expanding its market and setting up shops in the U.S.
232nd MI CO is Back!
After being deployed for approximately 14 months the 232nd Military Intelligence Company I belong to has returned to Wisconsin. Earlier this afternoon our Families, Friends, Fellow Wisconsin National Guard Members, Patriot Guard Riders, Media Members, and others welcomed us back to the badger state.
See the media coverage of our welcome home ceremony:
- 232nd Home from Afghanistan (NBC 15)
- Area Soldiers Receive Emotional Homecoming (Channel 3000)
- Emotional Homecoming for Wisconsin Troops (WKOW 27)
- Happy Homecoming Ahead (Monroe Times)
- Soldiers Reunite with Family (Wisconsin Radio Network)
- Returning GIs Ready to Claim Bennies [sic] (Wisconsin Radio Network)
I’ll be back posting (I know a bad practice) a few posts that I wrote while we were in transit when I couldn’t find an internet connection. Due to that same lack of internet access a large number of my websites have been falling by the wayside while I was deployed, hopefully I will be able to give them some much needed attention in the next couple of months.
It’s great to be back!
Why do anything logically???
I just read an AP article entitled “National Guard Units Face 2nd Tour in Iraq.” There is a quote, talking about the order the military will call up repeat units, that made me chuckle.
“Logic would lead you to go back to the ones that went first, and start going around again,” said Blum. “But that’s probably not exactly how we’ll do it” because the decision will depend partly on what types of units are needed.
I know Blum went on to clarify that it will be based on the needs of the Army but he could have worded his first statement differently and no brought up logic at all. This just reminds us that logic has no place in today’s military…
