Slam the Door on 2007, Walk into 2008
Normally I would have posted two New Years related posts. One would have been reviewing my resolutions from 2007, the other would have been publishing my resolutions for 2008. It appears that I was too busy returning to the US from Afghanistan last year to make or post 2007 New Year’s Resolutions. So I can’t review them.
I will take a moment to recap the year. I returned from my first deployment in Afghanistan and jumped right back into the swing of things with school. I finished out that Spring semester and decided to work at Ed Bryant Scout Reservation for one more summer. After a fun, interesting, and unique summer I wrapped up my schooling with an awesome internship in the Juvenile Services unit of the Waukesha County Department of Health and Human Services. I graduated on December 21st, 2007 and am currently awaiting my state Social Worker Certification so I can get a “real” job. Yes, a lot happened this past year and I hope that 2008 is a little bit calmer.
On to the fun stuff…
Dan’s New Year’s Resolutions
1) Get in shape! To meet military height / weight requirements I need to loose 35 pounds. I don’t think that is going to happen anytime soon but its a goal that I am going to aim for.
2) Run a 1/2 marathon! I have my eyes set on the Las Vegas Marathon. Since it will be my first one, I’m planning on signing up for the Half Marathon. This will be a pain in my butt / legs since I hate running, but its something I am going to do. Hopefully I’ll be able to talk a few others into giving it a shot with me.
Random Things Going Through My Mind…
- Why can’tI buy a single BIC pen from Amazon.com? Here they are at Amazon.co.uk: Bic Crystal ballpoint pen, medium point, black, EACH
- What is the proper way to list a job that you worked for four summers, but not all of them were consecutive? Its easy on my resume, but obnoxious on specialized applications.
- How many background checks will I be subject to over my life? It seems like every organization I work with requires one, guess its a good thing.
Five Clicks to Jesus
I was looking at a Facebook group one of my friends joined when I ran across some of the members playing a Wiki Game, called “Five Clicks Away from Jesus”.
The directions are pretty simple:
1. Go to Wikipedia
2. Click “Random Article” (in the box under the big ol’ Wiki puzzle logo)
3. Player has five (5) clicks to get from the random article to the article “Jesus”
It seemed like it would be interesting and I figured it could kill a little time so I gave it a whirl:
Random Article: P-Funk All Stars
First Click: George Clinton (Funk Musician)
Second Click: Kannapolis, North Carolina
Third Click: Britt Nicole
Fourth Click: Christian
Fifth Click: Jesus Christ
I barely made it… Can you get to Jesus is Five Clicks?
Happy Veterans Day
Today is Veteran’s Day. I’d like to think everyone will take a moment publicly or privately to thank those that have served to protect their freedoms. I’d like to think that people could support the Troops without mentioning politics today. I’d like to think there would be no War Protests today. I’d like to think stores won’t take advantage of the “Holiday” and try and draw folks into shopping with super deals. Unfortunately I’m sure I’ll be disappointed.
If you haven’t already seen it, take 11 minutes to watch the following Veteran’s Tribute, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
I’ll be taking a moment to salute my fellow Veterans, and those that have passed before us. Please do the same.
