Randy Pausch, a Professor who was made famous after giving his “last lecture” celebrating his life and lessons learned, has passed away at age 47.

Professor Pausch, taught computer science at Carnegie Mellon University, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September of 2006. Approximately a year later he gave a 76 minute speech about living life to the fullest and fulfilling childhood dreams.

In case you haven’t seen the lecture yet, here you go:

If only all professors were this passionate! Prof. Pausch brings some good points to the table, here are a few that stuck with me:

  • Have something bring to the table.
  • The “Brick Walls” are there for a reason. They are not there to keep us out, they are there to let us prove how bad we want things. They are there to stop the other people that don’t want things bad enough.
  • It is important to know when you are in a pissing match, and to get out of it as soon as possible.
  • Let your kids paint their bedroom!
  • Focus on other people not on yourself.
  • Be Prepared: Luck is where preparation meets opportunity.

I haven’t read it yet, but I would encourage you to consider buying The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch and Jeffrey Zaslow. I just purchased it from Amazon, and will hopefully be able to read it during the next month in between my various trainings.

R.I.P. Professor Pausch. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends.

Brett Favre Saga

Number 4 being a baby

Brett Favre wants to play!

I’ve never been a huge fan of Brett Favre, I always thought he was unreliable and always got the credit when his receivers were doing the work.   I was happy when he retired, then annoyed when Wisconites went crazy crying and whining.  I even stopped listening to the radio on my hour commute to work in the morning because it was all they talked about.

Now Favre wants to play, and appeared hurt when Green Bay didn’t welcome him back.  Oh no!  The Green Bay Packer share holders realized they had no power but still called for a vote.  The Packers didn’t listen!  Then Brett decides he wants to be released so he can play elsewhere.  Personally I think they should let him go, as I don’t think he will do anywhere as well as he did in Green Bay.  Let him make a fool out of himself, and “ruin his legacy!”

I’m also glad that Brett Favre decided to show the world how smart he really was by using his Packers issued cell phone, after his retirement announcement, to call Vikings coach Brad Childress and offensive coordinator Darell Bevell.   I look forward to watching the tampering investigation unfold.

Cheaper than Gas!

I’m usually not one to complain about high gas prices, to be honest I think a continuous high gas price would cut down on the number of idiots on the road. With that being said, my commute to work and back is ~60 miles both ways, and I often have to drive around Kenosha County for work. So, Gas prices are kicking my wallet right now.

I may just have to take this signs advice…

Drink, Don’t Drive

Happy Fourth of July - From an Unpatriotic Person!

Annoyed. That described me after what should have been a nice conversation with an elderly neighbor. We were talking about the beautiful weather, the holiday weekend, and just how nice it was to have both at the same time. She asked me where I was going to go watch the fireworks from, and I replied that I wasn’t, as I was no longer a fan of fireworks. Then I became unpatriotic! Yes me, Unpatriotic. Go figure.
