AP going to make the same mistake as AFP?
I often wonder if I could have worked on my writing style and made it in Journalism. It’s still a passion of mine but I just don’t have the skills, although I am working on a project that may bring me back in touch with this hobby.
Anyway, I have been watching the whole Google News vs. Agence France-Press (AFP) “fight,” basically AFP sued Google for linking to sites that carried their articles. It pissed off all of the customers of AFP because Google News is a good way to be visible. Now the Associated Press has taken notice that Google hid like a scared puppy, and suggested that Google News buys a license for AP content. If Google does end up buying the license they should just send anyone interested in an AP story to their own news page with ads and such. They have the demand, they would have the license, they might as well have the profits. That should really piss off AP’s other customers.
Google Watching?
I’m often told that I am still too geeky but atleast I didn’t realize that google raised their logo…
I wonder what their reasoning was? Maybe it was a human error? Maybe its making way for their new portal? Maybe its a sign that google is only going to spider the top of everyone’s web pages now? Maybe they are about to add google adsense to the main page? I’m going crazy with speculation!!!!
RIP John W. Faust (1921 - 2005)
To be honest, I’m not sure what my exact relationship to John was. I believe if a title had to be given he was my great uncle in law, which basically means a good family friend. John was a great person, always fun to talk to, and always seemed to care about what was going on with everyone. He will be missed.
John W. Faust, age 84, of Madison, died on Monday, April 4, 2005, at St. Marys Hospital, after a lengthy illness. He was born on Jan. 4, 1921, in Madison, to Hubert and Lillian (Vitense) Faust.
John graduated from Madison East High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Sea Bees. John married Ruth Swenson on June 21, 1947. He was a carpenter and foreman for Findorff Construction for 25 years. John was assistant business manager, president and financial secretary for the Carpenter’s Union Local No. 314, retiring in 1983. He was also president of the Madison Labor Temple.
John was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church and V.F.W. Post No. 1318. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Badgers and Packers, and a die-hard Cubs fan. John enjoyed escorting trips to Cubs games at Wrigley Field. He also enjoyed playing baseball and was fondly remembered as “Cannonball” by his teammates. John managed baseball teams sponsored by the Main King Tap, Norb and Bill’s Bar, and Leske’s Supper Club.
He is survived by a daughter, Diana (Ronald) Nelson of Edgerton; a son, James Faust of Fitchburg; special friend, Ruth Martinson, and her family; grandchildren, Orrin (Diane) Nelson and Darrin (Kris) Nelson; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Tabitha, Tanner and Alyssa Nelson; brothers, Ray Faust (friend, Maxine Denruiter), Dick Faust and David (Jean) Faust; several nieces; and nephews. John was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, in 1992; his parents; infant son, William John, in 1949; special friend and sister-in-law, Evelyn Roh; and sisters-in-law, Jeanne Faust and Dorothy Faust.
Funeral services will be held at ST. STEPHEN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5700 Pheasant Hill Road, Monona, at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2005, with the Rev. Bruce Burnside presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park, with military rites. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2005.
A special thanks to the staffs at St. Marys Renal Service Center, St. Marys Medical Center, East Madison/Monona Coalition of the Aging, Home Health United, REM Health of Wisconsin, Independent Living and Dr. Albert Musa, Dr. Kim Trostel and Dr. Edward Ahrens.
God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered, come to me. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands now rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

No Google hat for me…
I received an email back from google in regards to the bug I discovered (see Maybe They’ll Send me a Google Hat!), seems like they are aware of the situation and working on it:
Thank you for your note. We’re aware of this problem, and our engineers are currently investigating. We hope to have this fixed soon. We appreciate your patience, and thanks for taking the time to write.Regards,
The Google Team
To be honest I am surprised it takes so long to fix a simple issue as removing a subdomain. Unless there is something I’m missing I think Google has lost its laid back approach and is caught up in the red tape.
